Inter Bounce Back In Style

Inter responded very well to a couple of disappointing results with a 6-1 thrashing of an in-form Bologna. However, it was far from easy in the early parts of the match.

Strong Start By Bologna

I felt Bologna started well and played with confidence. They moved the ball around well with authority without threatening our goal too much but were looking to penetrate our defence while we were misplacing some of our passes and when in the Bologna half, our passes went sideways more than forward. We were excited to see the partnership of Joaquin Correa and Lautaro Martinez but we hardly saw any combination from both players.

Clinical Inter

The difference between this game and the ones against Sampdoria and Real Madrid was that we were ruthless and clinical in front of goal. We scored from our first chance and first shot on goal. Milan Skriniar made it 2-0 after missing from good positions in the last two matches. Bologna was still in the game up until 2-0. We killed them off at 3-0 and then we didn’t rest on our laurels and piled on their misery in the second half.

Good Performances All-Around

It was a very good response to two disappointing results. Denzel Dumfries started for the first time this season and provided the pace and speed we have been missing on the right flank since we lost Achraf Hakimi. I do feel he is still a work in progress and can still get better in both halves of the pitch. As a personality too, I feel he would be more confident in expressing himself once he can converse better in Italian. Edin Dzeko came off the bench sooner than expected due to Correa’s injury and linked up very well with Lautaro Martinez. Federico Dimarco had a good outing on the left flank too; his set-piece deliveries and crosses are a big potential as a source of goals for us.

Perfect Game & Tough Challenges Ahead

It was the perfect game for us as those that were rested was able to be rested except in the case of Dzeko. Due to the result, some key players like Stefan De Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni, Marcelo Brozovic and Lautaro Martinez were able to be brought off and rested. This allowed those with limited game time so far like Andrea Ranocchia, Aleksandar Kolarov, Alexis Sanchez and Roberto Gagliardini some time on the pitch. Tougher challenges await us in the next two matches as we face a resurgent and in-form Fiorentina in midweek and next weekend, we face Atalanta who might be stuttering but is always quality and dangerous opponent to face.
